What: For citizens of Le Claire who provide a donation to the troop of $40, the troop displays a flag in front of their property on five holidays during the year. The flags are put up in the morning and taken down at night. In the morning, flags are loaded into a parent’s vehicle with 2-3 boys and ideally another parent. There are around five routes to cover and flags are set up for the addresses listed on the route. In the evening, the flags are picked up and brought back to the storage area.
Why: The Avenue of Flags is one of the main fundraisers for Troop 46 and provides a service to the community displaying the US flag. The money raised is used for summer camp discounts ($100 in 2020), awards for court of honors, keeping registration costs/dues to a minimum, and other scouting related expenses.
When: Memorial Day, Flag Day, July 4th, Labor Day, and Veteran’s Day (6:00am morning shift and 6:00pm night shift)
Who: Both boys and parents! We especially need parents that own vehicles that can have flags loaded into them (trucks, mini-vans, SUVs, etc.) But we also need parents that can ride along in a vehicle and help direct the boys on which properties need flags. There are two work groups (on back of sheet) that alternate between morning and night duties.
Where: The flags are stored at Cody Storage which is northwest of the fire station at 2399 Trent St in Le Claire. Our storage unit is A21 which is in between the first two rows of units.
