If you are considering joining Troop 46, here are some quick pieces of information that may help you decide if Troop 46 may fit your hopes for a Boy Scout Troop.

It is important to choose a troop that meets on nights you are generally available.  Choose a troop that has a support structure that helps you and your family participate in scouting.  Choose a troop that fits your financial needs.  Choose a troop that you and your son feel comfortable attending.  Not all troops are for all boys, just like not all families fit into every troop.  And that is OK!  We are all different with different needs.

ABOUT Troop 46

-We meet every Monday from 7-8:30pm (one Monday per month is a Committee Mtg instead of a Troop Mtg.).

-The Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC) meets monthly.  Even months are generally on the 4th Sunday of the month from 2pm-4:30pm.  Odd months are generally on the 4th Monday of the month from 6pm-7pm immediately preceding the Troop Meeting.

-Committee Meetings are generally the 3rd Monday of the month, or the Monday following a campout, whichever fits better in the overall calendar.  Committee Meetings are comprised of all parents and those concerned citizens who wish to be a member of the committee.

-We have 4 major fundraisers per year (Flags, Tug Fest, Camp Cards, Popcorn). The first 2 are required and fund the general accounts of the troop, the others are optional and applied to personal scout account credit.

-While Troop 46 does not charge ANY Troop Dues, there are expectations for required participation in various events.  In return, the troop defrays the cost of summer camp, annual BSA membership dues, provides shared equipment, monthly campouts, and assists families financially when requested.

-Any boy who is 10 1/2 or older and NOT currently in Cub Scouting can contact the troop at any time to visit and join.

Open Events for Scouts Considering Joining Troop 46

-For outdoor events required for Webelos Scouts' Rank Advancement, we invite new Webelos 2 dens to join us for Saturday-Sunday of our September Campout and the Kittan Klondike in January.  We invite Webelos 1 and 2 dens to join us for the fall Camporee.

-The first Troop Meeting we plan with Webelos 2 dens is generally the first Monday Meeting in December.  At this meeting, we plan a round robin style meeting that will provide a unique experience as he is learning about some of the skills he will need to know for Klondike.

-Should your family decide to join Troop 46, your Webelos 2 son will then be invited to his first meeting as a boy scout, the first Monday in March and will be welcome to attend the February Cabin Camp Out where we learn about how the troop is run and do leadership training for all the boys as well as fun outdoor winter activities.  The February camp out is generally held at Cole’s Memorial Youth Cabin, Geneseo; 719 Hummingbird Court, Geneseo, Illinois.  This is just NORTH of the City of Geneseo.
